I was born in Washington, D.C. and from a very early age I had a passion for education. I attended Spelman College to pursue a career in teaching where I also became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. In 2009, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in child development and joined Teach for America: allowing me the opportunity to give back by teaching at Anacostia Senior High School in Southeast, Washington, D.C.
I decided to advance my career, so I began graduate school and completed my Master of Education at George Mason University in 2011.
While everything looked great on the outside, the ending of a relationship triggered extreme anxiety and depression: leading to several psychotic breaks. I completed my master’s degree in the psych ward. I never thought something like this could happen to me, but it did. I continued to spiral downward mentally and journeyed through three additional psych wards and two suicide attempts.
After experiencing the lows of life, I was inspired to write my first book in 2014, He Wasn’t My Daddy: My Road to Restoration and Redemption. I did speaking engagements and interviews to help women heal from generational trauma caused by their father’s absence. Though I lost my desire to teach in the classroom, I found a new joy in uplifting women and giving them the tools to take control of their mental health and wellness.
Needless to say: I’ve been where you have been and I’ve seen what you have seen. I want you to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
We go through so much, so I wanted to create an escape for us where we could be renewed on the inside and on the outside.
Hailing from Washington, D.C., my journey began with an unwavering passion for education. As a proud alumna of Spelman College and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, I embarked on a mission to empower minds and shape futures. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in child development in 2009, I eagerly joined Teach for America, dedicating myself to enriching the lives of students at Anacostia Senior High School.
Yet, amidst the accolades, life took an unexpected turn. Struggling with anxiety and depression following a tumultuous relationship, I found myself in the depths of despair, navigating through multiple psych ward stays and battling suicidal thoughts.
But adversity became my catalyst for transformation. Emerging from darkness, I channeled my pain into purpose, penning my inaugural book, ‘He Wasn’t My Daddy: My Road to Restoration and Redemption,’ in 2014. Through speaking engagements and interviews, I sought to heal generational wounds and empower women to reclaim their narrative.
Having walked through the shadows, I understand your journey. And I stand as living proof that there is hope beyond despair.
Today, I stand before you as a beacon of resilience and renewal. With a heart dedicated to uplifting women, I’ve forged a sanctuary where inner and outer beauty converge. At K. Restoration Wellness, we offer more than just services—we offer transformation. Because in the midst of life’s storms, we deserve a sanctuary to rediscover our light and reclaim our joy.”
